America’s immigration system is broken. The debate has been polarized between two extreme ideologies, one that advocates for virtually open borders and another that opposes nearly all immigration. Neither extreme serves the American people, and both ignore our nation’s complex history and present needs.
We are a nation of immigrants. That heritage is something to honor, not weaponize. At the same time, a sovereign nation has both the right and the obligation to control its borders, enforce its laws, and ensure that immigration serves the national interest.
My plan features strong checks and balances. We must secure the border with modern technology, adequate personnel, and physical barriers where they make strategic sense. We must reform the legal immigration system to reduce backlogs, prioritize skills-based immigration alongside family reunification, and create a functional guest worker program for industries that depend on seasonal labor.
We must address the millions of people already here without legal status in a way that is both humane and just, without rewarding those who cut in line ahead of legal immigrants. And we must crack down on employers who exploit undocumented workers, driving down wages for American citizens and legal residents.
This is not about left or right. It’s about finding a balanced, enforceable approach that honors our heritage while protecting our future. I’ve laid out the details in my video series, and I welcome the debate.
